The Turner Cooper 'People-First' Scholarship seeks to empower a college student who embodies this 'people-first' philosophy. If you are in good academic standing, actively contribute to your local community, and can demonstrate a deep commitment to compassion and prioritizing collective well-being, we encourage you to apply.

The Turner Cooper "People-First" Scholarship will provide financial support for the recipient's higher education journey. The exact award amount will be determined based on the funds available and the committee's evaluation of the applicants.

Applications open June 19th, 2025 and close August 15th, 2025.

  • 1. Applicant Background: The People-First Scholarship is open to college students of African or African-American descent who demonstrate a dedication to Turner's values of compassion, community, and self-awareness.

    2. Academic Excellence: Applicants should maintain a strong academic record, highlighting their commitment to education.

    3. Community Involvement: Applicants should showcase their participation in community service, volunteer work, or initiatives that prioritize the well-being and unity of others.

    4. Demonstrated Leadership: Students should possess a history of leadership roles or contributions within their school or local community.

  • 1. Personal Statement: A thoughtful essay (500-750 words) discussing how you embody Turner Cooper's values of fostering deep conversations, intentional love, and practicing yoga and meditation. Share instances from your life that reflect these values.

    2. Academic Transcript: Provide a copy of your college transcript, demonstrating your academic achievements.

    3. Letters of Recommendation: Two letters of recommendation from teachers, mentors, or community leaders who can speak to your character, leadership qualities, and dedication to service.

    4. Video Submission: Create a short video (3-5 minutes) introducing yourself and elaborating on your commitment to the values of this scholarship.
